FARMERS BUSINESS & COMMERCIAL INSURANCE
Bring me the whole picture.
You’ve put too much into your business for a rushed conversation. Tell me how you earn your income, who depends on you and where you want to grow. I’ll help you identify the coverage questions that matter, explain available Farmers options and work through the next steps with you.
Whether you’re opening your doors, reviewing an established operation or taking on a larger contract, you’ll have a direct point of contact at the Jennifer Hickman Agency in Universal City, serving San Antonio, New Braunfels and the surrounding communities.
Coverage for the moving parts of your business.
Farmers offers a range of commercial insurance options. We can explore individual coverages and, for eligible businesses, a Business Owners Policy (BOP) that brings property and general liability coverage together, with options to tailor the policy.
General liability
Explore protection for covered claims that your business caused someone else’s bodily injury or property damage, including related legal defense costs. Think customer visits, job sites and everyday interactions.
Commercial property
Discuss your building, equipment, inventory and other business property. We’ll talk about what you own, what you lease and the covered risks you want to address.
Business income
A covered property loss can affect more than your building. Ask about coverage that may help replace lost income and address covered operating expenses while your business recovers.
Commercial auto
Work trucks, delivery vehicles and business-use vehicles deserve their own conversation. Let’s review how your vehicles are used, who drives them and the liability and vehicle coverage options available.
Workers’ compensation
Explore coverage for covered work-related employee injuries or illnesses, including medical care and lost wages. We’ll discuss your team, job duties and the options available for your operation.
Commercial umbrella
Ask about additional liability limits above eligible underlying policies. This can be an important conversation when you’re reviewing larger exposures or contract requirements.
Cyber liability & data breach response
If your business handles customer information or relies on digital systems, ask about available coverage for certain cyber incidents and breach response costs, such as investigation and customer notification.
Tools, equipment & industry needs
Your risks may follow you beyond the office. Depending on your operation, we can discuss options involving tools and equipment, crime, equipment breakdown or other industry-specific exposures.
Coverage is subject to underwriting, availability, policy limits, deductibles, exclusions and terms. Not every coverage is available for every business; I’ll help you understand what can be considered for yours.
Your industry changes the conversation.
A restaurant doesn’t face the same day as a repair shop or a commercial property owner. Farmers offers commercial insurance options for industries including:
- Restaurants & food trucks
- Retail stores
- Offices & professional businesses
- Home & building service businesses
- Auto service & repair shops
- Apartment & commercial property owners
- Homeowners associations
- Manufacturing & wholesale businesses
Don’t see your business here? Call me. Tell me what you do—even if it’s a mix of services or your needs are more complex. I’ll take the time to understand your operation and determine which available options we can pursue.
Explore Farmers coverage by industry ↗A business review with a clear next step.
We’ll start with your operations, locations, vehicles and employees. Then we can discuss existing policies, coverage limits, growth plans and any insurance requirements from a landlord or client. If you have a renewal or contract deadline, tell me early so we can plan around it.
You don’t have to arrive knowing every insurance term. Bring your questions, and I’ll help you make sense of the options and what information is needed for a quote.
CLEAR ANSWERS. A PERSONAL CONVERSATION.
Practical questions from business owners
Here’s where I’d start. Your policy and situation determine the details; let’s review them together.
A client needs a certificate of insurance today. Can you help?
Call me directly with the deadline and the insurance requirements. We’ll review the policy and what documentation the agency can issue. A certificate summarizes existing coverage; it doesn’t create coverage or change the policy. If something is missing, we need to address that first rather than just put it on a form.
My contract says “additional insured.” Is a certificate enough?
Not by itself. Additional-insured status has to come from the policy’s provisions or an applicable endorsement. Send the requirement through an appropriate channel so we can review the coverage, limits and documentation. I can help with the insurance questions; legal interpretation of the contract belongs with your attorney.
I use my pickup for jobs. Do I need commercial auto?
Tell me who owns it, who drives it, what you haul and how you use it on the job. A personal policy may not fit those business activities. I’ll help review whether commercial auto or another available option is appropriate, including situations where employees use their own cars for your business.
Are the tools in my truck covered if someone steals them?
Don’t assume the auto policy covers the tools inside the vehicle. We need to check business property or equipment coverage, including protection away from your premises. Tell me their value, where they’re stored and whether they move between jobs so we can discuss the right coverage questions.
Does general liability cover a mistake in the advice or service I provide?
General liability and professional liability address different risks. A claim about bodily injury or property damage isn’t the same as a claim about an error in professional work. Tell me what your business actually does, and I’ll help identify which available coverage options are relevant to those exposures.
If a covered loss shuts us down, who pays the ongoing bills?
Business income and extra expense coverage may help when the policy’s requirements are met. Not every shutdown qualifies. We’ll review the covered cause, any waiting period, limits and restoration period, along with the expenses your business would still face while the doors are closed.
Can I cover my whole business with a business owner’s policy?
A business owner’s policy can combine certain property and liability coverages for eligible businesses, but it isn’t a complete answer for every operation. Vehicles, employee injuries and other exposures may need separate coverage. I’ll start with your work, people, locations and contracts, then discuss what is available and what still needs attention.
